Footballing triumphs!
Every year our Open Arms Academy students participate in sport activities with other primary schools in local, divisional, and district level competitions. This year, out of thousands of children in hundreds of schools, four of our girls, Maureen, Prudence, Ruth and Leonida have been chosen to play football at regional level. Our girls won 10 of the 15 games they played!
In addition Ruth, Maureen, and Leonida were selected to proceed to the Nationals competition to represent approximately 1.5 million students from the entire Rift Valley region.
All four were also invited to participate in the East Africa Cup, where they will play in the Christian Sports Contact Team (CHRISC) that is representing Eldoret at the Tournament. The East Africa Cup Tournament is held once a year during the last week of June in Moshi, Tanzania for boys and girls 11-16 years, and brings together a large number of participants from different countries within East Africa and beyond. Alongside the tournaments the young people attend workshops on the environment, leadership, HIV/Aids awareness and a selection of smaller workshops eg: media skills, first aid, animation, etc.
Please pray for the girls as they prepare for this important tournament. They are all determined to be wonderful ambassadors for Open Arms both on and off the pitch.
We are also running a small campaign to cover costs not covered by the CHRISC. If you would like to make a donation towards the chaperone costs estimated to be approx £350 please click https://www.charitycheckout.co.uk/1095664/ and state that you would like your donation to be used for CHRISC tournament costs. Thank you very much!
We look forward to bringing you further updates and pictures very soon.
