1998 Yamaha SG 2000

The Blue Book Says:

I say:

Wow – everything as it should be- clearly this baby has been well cared for.  Yamaha guitars are very hard to date due to their “rolling” number sequence – but the limited time frame of manufacture and the THICK slab body of this one does suggest that it is from the period mentioned in the Blue Book.  However the Hiscox case, and push/push coil taps are a more recent feature, hence why I’ve decided that this is probably a 1998 guitar (they made some reissue SG 2000’s for the Japanese Market only, so seeing this over here is quite a rarity). The awesome chest cutaway and amazing neck joint make this one of the most comfortable and easiest to play SG’s I’ve ever owned.

No noticeable fretboard/fret wear.

All original crackle free and fully functional electronics, with the original OPG-1 Alnico V pickups.

The figured maple cap is gorgeous, and the lacquer only shows minor signs of play wear.  The worst chips are clearly shown in the photos.

There is no clouding of the faceplate that is so common on these guitars.

This was built in the days when we all believed (and some of us still do…) that mass = sustain.

Heavyweight mahogany – cut very thick  – brass sustain plate under the bridge – brass bridge.

Plays great with low action.  Neck is good and straight.

There’s a reason that Yamaha were Carlos Santana’s favourites in this era…..

It also comes with a perfect condition Hiscox/Yamaha case.
