2006 PRS Custom 24 Burnt Amber finish. “10 Top,” Vintage Bass and HFS Pickups.

The Blue Book Says:

PRS CUSTOM 24 (PRS CUSTOM GUITAR, CUSTOM)

– offset double cutaway mahogany body, carved figured maple top, mahogany neck, 24-fret rosewood fingerboard with abalone/pearl moon inlay, 25 in. scale, PRS tremolo system or PRS stoptail (mfg. circa 1993-2001), three-per-side low mass cam style locking tuners, chrome hardware, Phase II tuners became standard 2002, two standard T & B humbucker PRS pickups (one HFS and one Vintage Bass beginning 1991), volume/tone control, 5-position rotary switch, optional 3-way toggle selector switch and push/pull tone control (coil tap capabilities), 10-top became an option in 1987 (flame or quilt), available in many colors. Vintage Yellow is the most desirable in early mfg., low serial numbers are also very desirable, includes Tolex case, mfg. 1985-present.

I Say:

As always the PRS finishing touches are superb,  the stain, the wood – everything just awesome.  A very nice – almost book matched top, stained in my second favourite colour.  The guitar is fundamentally unmarked apart from some minor “stand damage” along the bottom edge and a little chip in the headstock – all shown in the photos.

Classic pickups and electronics give a plethora of tonal options – all original and crackle free.

No coil tap on this as it has the 5 position rotary knob rather than the toggle plus options…

The case is marked as befits an 8 year old guitar that’s been used, but comes complete with some of the PRS paperwork and Trem arm in the case pocket.

The rotary pickup selector gives a wide range of tonal palettes –

ROTARY POSITIONS

Position 10: Treble pickup
Position 9: Outside coils- deep and clear – parallel
Position 8: Series single coils – Warm version of the “in between the treble and middle pickups”
Position 7: Parallel single coils – Crisp version of the “in between the treble and middle pickups”
Position 6: Bass pickup
