2005 Fender American Deluxe “Victor Bailey” Signature Jazz Bass

The Blue Book Says:

VICTOR BAILEY JAZZ BASS (U.S. MFG. NO. 019-6800)
– offset double cutaway koa/rosewood/mahogany body, bolt-on maple neck, 22 medium/jumbo fret rosewood fingerboard, four-on-one-side deluxe lightweight tuners, combo STB top load bridge, no pickguard, two noiseless pickups, four control knobs (v, blend, 3-band equalizer, switch), available in Natural finish, mfg. 2001-2011.

I say:

Victor Bailey is probably best known for his work with Weather Report, so being able to replace Jaco Pastorius must give some credibility to his skills!

This is a beautifully made American Deluxe Signature Series guitar.  The three ply body has a Koa Top, Rosewood centre and Mahogany back.  The pickups and active tone controls give a huge range of possibilities.  I’m not going to say much else  – but rather I’ll let the man himself explain what he was trying to do with this guitar….

The guitar is now discontinued, and I’ve never seen another on offer! – The maple neck is unmarked and the rosewood fingerboard with its abalone dot inlays and frets are unmarked.  There are only two minor dings that I can see – each about 3mm in diameter, one near the concentric tone pots on the front of the guitar and one on the upper bass bout on the rear of the guitar.  The all original Fender guitar case is likewise nearly un-marked.
