1982 Rickenbacker 4003 Bass Guitar Mapleglo

– cresting wave style bound maple body, two-piece white pickguard, through-body maple neck, 20-fret bound rosewood fingerboard with pearl triangle inlay, fixed bridge, cresting wave style peghead, two-per-side tuners, chrome hardware, two single coil exposed pickups (metal cover over bridge pickup), four konbs (two v, two tone), three-position switch, stereo output, available in Natural finish, mfg. 1979-present.

In 1985, pickguard was replaced with one piece unit. This model is very similar to the 4001 with the main difference being the 4003 is meant for round-wound strings. This model is also available in fretless configuration (Model 4003 FL).

This is no “case queen” or expensive wallpaper, but rather has been the gigging guitar of a musician prior to his retirement, as a consequence it does have an individual selection of “relic” features.   This example has the original pre 1985 two part pick guard, and the rather unusual reverse wound tuners.  It has at some point been drilled to have extra hardware added – possibly some form of bridge cover.  The Bridge pickup cover is still in the case, but I prefer it without. All electrics are original and working, crackle free.   Neck is straight and true – good action and awesome sound! – what more can you ask.

Original case included as shown.
