1979 Gibson USA ES 335 “PRO” Antique Sunburst

ES-335 PRO

– double cutaway semi-hollow body, arched maple top and back, maple sides, white top and back body binding, two unbound f-holes, set three-piece maple neck, 22-fret bound rosewood fingerboard with dot inlays, black headstock overlay with Gibson log and crown inlays, three-per-side vintage-style tuners, tune-o-matic bridge, stop tailpiece, raised black pickguard, two exposed Dirty Finger humbucker pickups, four black speed knobs (two v, two tone), three-way pickup switch, available in Antique Sunburst or Cherry Red finish, 16 in. body width, 24.75 in. scale, mfg. 1979-1981.

A very good example of a rather rare edition of the classic ES 335.  The body does show some minimal signs of wear and use – some stand damage, and light buckle rash.  The lacquer has worn thin on the 3 piece neck (with period correct volute).  I suspect that the TP6 fine tuning tailpiece and Nashville bridge are later additions as they are not as aged as the rest of the metalwork, but it’s a good tailpiece and bridge, and I see no reason to change them.  The case is a new Epiphone case that has been badged to resemble a Gibson Case.  The case, like the tailpiece, is in excellent condition and I see no reason to change.

NB The pickups in this are the original very dynamic Gibson “T top” Dirty Fingers pickups – crisp and articulate and highly sought after.
