Greetings from Eldoret, Kenya!
There are amazing things happening here and we are hopeful that you have been receiving our Open Arms updates via email. Attached are photographs from our feeding program in Kampi Teso (a slum area outside of Eldoret where we are feeding 100 children four times per week), from our work in Eldoret prison, and a photo of some of our first 14 children in Open Arms Village as they play in the back of our pickup truck. The photo you see here from the prison is of the 300 to 400 inmates who came forward to say that they needed God in their lives and wanted to give their lives to Christ after our outreach there. Open Arms has access to these prisoners on at least a monthly basis (and sometimes more often) and we are committed to the discipleship and follow-up of these men. In fact, please pray as the prison has invited us to come back again in about 10 days to do medical clinics and ministry!
Thank you for your support and prayers – they mean everything to Rachel, me, and our 32 member team from the US, UK, and Uganda. We just had our 3 Uganda doctors and 3 Uganda dentists join us for working in the slums this week. We are truly Open Arms INTERNATIONAL!!!
Please don’t forget Soul Safari 2009 – our vision and mission trip to Kenya where we will visit the Open Arms Village for AIDS orphans and where we will conduct an outreach which includes medical/dental care, children’s work, church and business leader conferences and sharing God’s love in Christ in the greater Eldoret area. From Kenya (with a fantastic safari to conclude our time there) we will go on to our spiritual retreat in the Holy Land. The dates are March 7 to 28 next year (the Holy Land portion of the trip is optional). If you want more information via email, we are happy to send you a brochure. If you know someone who you think might be interested, please let us know and we’ll forward them a copy.
Please continue to pray for accelerated progress now on the construction of our Open Arms Village. Just this week we began construction on the African huts/cottages that our Kenyan and Western construction workers will stay in as they build our Children’s Homes. We should begin construction on the Children’s Homes within the next 6 weeks or so. We need your prayers and financial support.
Thank you for continuing to stand with us!
All our love and blessings,
David & Rachel
